Moving your FrameForge to a new computer
If you are retiring a computer and/or want to move FrameForge to a new one, you should do the following:
Save all Non-Standard Object/Textures and Convert File Formats
- Open a previs file
- Go to the File Menu
- Choose Save As...
- NOTE: If you are switching platforms between Windows and Mac, then you NEED to resave your files in a Cross-Platform format that both versions of FrameForge can read. To do so:
- Look for the drop-down at the bottom of the Save As Screen screen labeled file type or Save as Type;
- Choose the format that says FF Cross Platform (smallest) or any format that says Cross Platform in it.
- Regardless as to whether you are changing platforms or not, you MUST check the box that stars with Always save a cpack... as this is what will ensure that all non-standard objects and textures used in this file will be transferred.
- Save it to a USB drive or other location that you will use to transfer your files.
If you have used new objects or textures then it will create a CPACK with the same name as the file containing those non-standard objects/textures.
Repeat as needed for each file.
Once you have done this we HIGHLY recommend that you backup your object and library files just in case you missed something. You do so by
- Go to the TOOLS Menu
- Choose Manage Support Folders
- Choose Object Library
- Make a backup of all the directories here
- Repeat the steps above except in #3 choose the Textures/Decals folder
If you are no longer going to be using FrameForge on this machine, you can then exit the program and uninstall it.
Uninstall FrameForge from your old computer
Uninstalling has two important functions, and we highly recommend you use the Uninstall program rather than simply deleting the relevant folders/directories off your hard drive. This is because the uninstall program will both allow you to chose which FrameForge Storyboard Studio files and settings you wish to remove from your hard drive, and even more importantly because it will restore an Installation credit to the program’s online database for later reuse when you need to install it onto another computer.
Windows Uninstall
- Make sure you’re connected to the Internet.
- Click the Start Button
- Navigate to FrameForge Storyboard Studio in the list of programs
- Choose Uninstall FrameForge Storyboard Studio
MacOS Uninstall
- Make sure you’re connected to the Internet.
- Navigate to your FrameForge Storyboard Studio application folder (typically found in the Application’s folder inside your user folder).
- Launch the Uninstall Application you will find there.
You can then choose whether you want to just devalidate it or remove it entirely.
Install FrameForge on your new computer
Using your original FrameForge Setup files,
- install FrameForge on your new computer
- Install any expansion packs
- Install any .CPACKS generated in the first step.
- Copy in your previz files and you should be off to the races!
