Mac Only: Cannot Open app from unidentified developer

If you try to open an app that is not registered with Apple by an identified developer you get a warning dialog like this, though, of course, the exact app name may vary.
8580472B-BCB2-4682-9DB6-D40B8BEC6AD8@fios-router.homeAll this means is that the app has not been reviewed by Apple, not that there is a problem with it.

To override your security settings and open the app anyway:
  1. In the Finder, locate the app you want to open.  NOTE: Don’t use Launchpad to do this. Launchpad doesn’t allow you to access the shortcut menu.
  2. Press and hold the Control key, then click the app icon and  choose Open from the shortcut menu that appears.

Do this once and the app will be saved as an exception to your security settings, and you can open it in the future by double-clicking it just as you can any registered app.

To globally change your security settings, see, Protect your Mac from malware.
